Then Yahweh God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” And the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

¶My soul is among lions; I am lying down among those who breathe forth fire, Sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows And their tongue a sharp sword.

They have venom like the venom of a serpent; Like a deaf cobra that stops up its ear,

Behold, they pour forth speech with their mouth; Swords are in their lips, For, they say, “Who hears?”

There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing.

At the end—like a serpent it bites, And like a viper it stings.

Who with perversity in his heart continually devises evil, Who spreads contentions.

Transgressing and denying Yahweh, And turning back from our God, Speaking oppression and revolt, Conceiving in and uttering from the heart lying words.

“They bend their tongue like their bow; Lies and unfaithfulness prevail in the land, For they go onward from evil to evil, And they do not know Me,” declares Yahweh.

“Everyone deceives his neighbor And does not speak the truth; They have taught their tongue to speak lies; They weary themselves committing iniquity.

The lips of those who rise against me and their whispering Are against me all day long.

You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

But I fear that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be corrupted from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.
