Unless Yahweh builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless Yahweh watches the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.

Now Yahweh gave wisdom to Solomon, just as He promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them cut a covenant.

See now, for Yahweh has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; be strong and act.”

Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for Yahweh God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of Yahweh is completed.

and give to my son Solomon a whole heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies and Your statutes, and to do them all, and to build the temple, for which I have made preparation.”

In my distress I called to Yahweh, And He answered me.

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come?

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of Yahweh.”

To You I lift up my eyes, The One enthroned in the heavens!

“Had it not been Yahweh who was on our side,” Let Israel now say,

Those who trust in Yahweh Are as Mount Zion, which will not be shaken but will abide forever.

When Yahweh returned the captive ones of Zion, We were like those who dream.

O God, give the king Your judgments, And Your righteousness to the king’s son.

And He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has founded forever.

The heart of man plans his way, But Yahweh directs his steps.

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the mighty, and neither is bread to the wise nor riches to the discerning nor favor to men who know; for time and misfortune overtake them all.

“The watchmen who go about the city found me, And I said, ‘Have you seen him whom my soul loves?’

“The watchmen who go about in the city found me, They struck me and wounded me; The guardsmen of the walls took away my shawl from me.

“I, Yahweh, am its keeper; I water it every moment. Lest anyone damage it, I keep it night and day.

His watchmen are blind; All of them know nothing. All of them are mute dogs unable to bark, Dreamers lying down, who love to slumber;

¶On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; All day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind Yahweh, take no rest for yourselves;

Lift up a standard against the walls of Babylon; Make strong the watch; Raise up watchmen; Establish men in ambush! For Yahweh has both purposed and performed What He spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

One runner runs to meet another, And one messenger to meet another, To give a message to the king of Babylon That his city has been captured from end to end;

And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.

So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.

I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you for nothing.

But you shall remember Yahweh your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, that He may confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

And it was told to the king of Jericho, saying, “Behold, men from the sons of Israel have come here tonight to search out the land.”
