To know wisdom and discipline, To understand the sayings of understanding,
The fear of Yahweh is the discipline leading to wisdom, And before glory comes humility.
How much better it is to acquire wisdom than fine gold! And to acquire understanding is to be chosen above silver.
Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to acquire wisdom, When he has no heart of wisdom?
Listen to counsel and receive discipline, That you may be wise in the end of your days.
Then you will understand righteousness and justice And equity—every good track.
Hear, O sons, the discipline of a father, And pay attention that you may know understanding,
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” And call understanding your intimate friend;
“Hear discipline and be wise, And do not neglect it.
“O simple ones, understand prudence; And, O fools, understand a heart of wisdom.
