For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.

Now when John in prison heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples

But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod,

Now when Jesus heard that John had been taken into custody, He departed into Galilee;

And King Herod heard it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”

For Herod himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her.

Now Herodias was holding a grudge against him and was wanting to put him to death and was not able;

and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”

And He was giving orders to them, saying, “Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

Now at that same time there were some present who were reporting to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

Just at that time some Pharisees approached, saying to Him, “Leave and go from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

And Herod with his soldiers, after treating Him with contempt and mocking Him, dressed Him in a bright robe and sent Him back to Pilate.

And when he learned that He belonged to Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was in Jerusalem in those days.

Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip was tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,

and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s manager, and Susanna, and many others who were ministering to them from their possessions.

Now about that time Herod the king laid hands on some who belonged to the church in order to harm them.

For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,
