Then the Lord said, “Because this people draw near with their mouth And honor Me with their lips, But they remove their hearts far from Me, And their fear of Me is in the command of men learned by rote,

You have said, ‘It is worthless to serve God; and what gain is it that we have kept His charge and that we have walked in mourning before Yahweh of hosts?

‘But in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commands of men.’ ”

“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.

And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

“Whatever I am commanding you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it.

Which deal with everything destined to perish with use, which are in accordance with the commands and teachings of men;

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and conflicts about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

If anyone thinks himself to be religious while not bridling his tongue but deceiving his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?

I bear witness to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book.

And you must not turn aside, for then you would go after meaningless things which cannot profit and cannot deliver, because they are meaningless.
