And seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night He *came to them, walking on the sea; and He was intending to pass by them.

And he said, “Now behold, my lords, please turn aside into your servant’s house, and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.” They said however, “No, but we shall spend the night in the square.”

Then he said, “Let me go, for the dawn is breaking.” But he said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Who alone stretches out the heavens, And tramples down the waves of the sea;

He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters; He sets up the clouds to be His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind;

More than the voices of many waters, Than the mighty breakers of the sea, Yahweh on high is mighty.

Then at the morning watch, Yahweh looked down on the camp of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud and brought the camp of the Egyptians into confusion.

¶“O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, Behold, I will lay your stones in antimony, And your foundations I will set in sapphires.

But the boat was already many stadia away from the land, being battered by the waves; for the wind was against them.

But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.

Therefore, stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—

And when it was evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land.

But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they thought that it was a ghost, and cried out;

Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

And they approached the village where they were going, and He acted as though He were going farther.

who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Then the next morning Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp at the morning watch and struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.
