saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to that yourself!”

Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was God’s Son!”

And they shouted again, “Crucify Him!”

And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he delivered Him over to be crucified.

but they kept on calling out, saying, “Crucify, crucify Him!”

Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, “I find no guilt in this man.”

And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for what we have done; but this man has done nothing wrong.”

Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was righteous.”

Pilate *said to Him, “What is truth?” And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and *said to them, “I find no guilt in Him.

So when the chief priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out saying, “Crucify, crucify!” Pilate *said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I find no guilt in Him.”

And though they found no ground for death, they asked Pilate that He be executed.

But when they recognized that he was a Jew, a single cry arose from them all as they shouted for about two hours, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”

For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens;

but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
