And some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife.

For I hate divorce,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with wrong,” says Yahweh of hosts. “Be careful then to keep your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.”

Then the disciples *came and *said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this statement?”

And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.

And some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?”

And one of them, a scholar of the Law, asked Him a question, testing Him,

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut off the kingdom of heaven from people; for you do not enter in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

But the Pharisees were saying, “He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons.”

And standing up, He *went from there to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan; crowds *gathered around Him again, and, according to His custom, He once more began to teach them.

And He answered and said to them, “What did Moses command you?”

And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him.

And He was giving orders to them, saying, “Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but inside of you, you are full of robbery and wickedness.

Now the Pharisees, who were lovers of money, were listening to all these things and were scoffing at Him.

And the Pharisees and their scribes began grumbling at His disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with the tax collectors and sinners?”

And the scribes and the Pharisees were watching Him closely to see if He heals on the Sabbath, so that they might find reason to accuse Him.

But the Pharisees and the scholars of the Law rejected God’s purpose for themselves, not having been baptized by John.

Therefore the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the Sanhedrin together, and were saying, “What are we doing? For this man is doing many signs.

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might seize Him.

The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to seize Him.

Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?

They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have evidence to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.

Nor let us put Christ to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents.
