Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As Yahweh, the God of Israel, lives, before whom I stand, surely there shall be neither dew nor rain these years, except by my word.”

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares Yahweh.

Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?’

At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight.

For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”

On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? Will the thing molded say to the molder, “Why did you make me like this”?

In Him, we also have been made an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Him

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.

These have the authority to shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during the days of their prophesying; they also have authority over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they wish.
