So he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.

“Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women also will fast in the same way. And thus I will go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

Then Moses entered the midst of the cloud as he went up to the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

So he was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

And he cried out and said, “In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, animal, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat, and do not let them drink water.

Now in the morning, when He was returning to the city, He became hungry.

And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry.

And the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

And I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of Yahweh to provoke Him to anger.

“So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and the forty nights, which I did because Yahweh had said He would destroy you.

When I went up to the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which Yahweh had cut with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water.

For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to help those who are tempted.

For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things like we are, yet without sin.

Then the Philistine approached, morning and evening, for forty days and took his stand.
