Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was righteous.”
And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.
Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was God’s Son!”
But when the crowds saw this, they were afraid, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
And when the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was God’s Son!”
And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for what we have done; but this man has done nothing wrong.”
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.”
