And following Him was a large multitude of the people, and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him.
I count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;
and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’
And many women were there looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee while ministering to Him.
And there were also some women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome,
But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, stop crying for Me, but cry for yourselves and for your children.
Now the women, who had come with Him from Galilee, followed and beheld the tomb and how His body was laid.
and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Now they were all crying and lamenting for her, but He said, “Stop crying, for she has not died, but is asleep.”
Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will cry and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.
