¶But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people.

Thus says Yahweh, the Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One, To the despised One, To the One abhorred by the nation, To the Servant of rulers, “Kings will see and arise, Princes will also bow down, Because of Yahweh who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”

He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the news about Jesus,

For when Herod had John arrested, he bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip.

But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod,

And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

And the chief priests and the scribes were standing there, vehemently accusing Him.

Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate *said to them, “Behold, the man!”

For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in bright clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes,

and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the bright clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,”
