“When your fathers tried Me, They tested Me, though they had seen My work.

And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him, they asked Him to show them a sign from heaven.

But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?

So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, so that they might catch Him in some statement, in order to deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor.

Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

“Show Me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.”

But Jesus, knowing their reasonings, answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts?

But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man with the withered hand, “Get up and come forward!” And he stood up and came forward.

and said, “You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?

Nor let us put Christ to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”;

so that we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming,

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are uncovered and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we have an account to give.
