Now the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba; for Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. Then the land was quiet from war.

Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

So they gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with its pasture lands all around it.

But the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession.

Then they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses had promised; and he dispossessed from there the three sons of Anak.

Then the land was quiet for forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land was quiet for eighty years.

“Thus let all Your enemies perish, O Yahweh; But let those who love Him be like the rising of the sun in its might.” And the land was quiet for forty years.

So Midian was subdued before the sons of Israel, and they did not lift up their heads anymore. And the land was quiet for forty years in the days of Gideon.

and to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men went about.”
