The scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court,

Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

in that they demonstrate the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,

You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?

in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart and knows all things.
