Now it is in my heart to cut a covenant with Yahweh, the God of Israel, that His burning anger may turn away from us.

Will You be angry with us forever? Will You prolong Your anger from generation to generation?

Will You not Yourself return to revive us, That Your people may be glad in You?

“For I will not contend forever, Nor will I always be angry; For the spirit would grow faint before Me, And the breath of those whom I have made.

Do not be angry beyond measure, O Yahweh, Nor remember iniquity forever; Behold, look now, all of us are Your people.

Go and call out these words toward the north and say, ‘Return, faithless Israel,’ declares Yahweh; ‘I will not look upon you in anger. For I am One of lovingkindness,’ declares Yahweh; ‘I will not be angry forever.

“Why then has this people, Jerusalem, Turned away in continual faithlessness? They hold fast to deceit; They refuse to return.

“I have given heed and heard, They have spoken what is not right; No man regretted his evil, Saying, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone turned to his course, Like a horse charging into the battle.

“Behold, the princes of Israel, each according to his power, have been in you for the purpose of shedding blood.

Woe to those who devise wickedness, Who work out evil on their beds! When the light of the morning comes, they do it, For it is in the power of their hands.

Concerning evil, both hands do it well. The prince asks, also the judge, for a payment, And a great man speaks the craving of his soul; So they weave it together.
