And Yahweh regretted that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

And Yahweh said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I regret that I have made them.”

Then the angel sent forth his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, and Yahweh relented of the calamity and said to the angel who destroyed the people, “It is enough! Now relax your hand!” And the angel of Yahweh was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was about to destroy it, Yahweh saw and relented concerning the calamity, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough! Now relax your hand.” And the angel of Yahweh was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

And He remembered for them His covenant, And relented according to the abundance of His lovingkindness.

¶Yahweh has sworn and will not change His mind, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”

I see the treacherous and loathe them, Those who do not keep Your word.

¶How often they rebelled against Him in the wilderness And grieved Him in the wasteland!

“Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways!

“For forty years I loathed that generation, And said they are a people who wander in their heart, And they do not know My ways.

So Yahweh relented concerning the harm which He said He would do to His people.

“If only you had paid attention to My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

But they rebelled And grieved His Holy Spirit; Therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy; He fought against them.

At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot, to tear down, or to make it perish;

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear Yahweh and entreat the favor of Yahweh, and Yahweh relented of the evil demise which He had spoken against them? But we are committing a great evil against ourselves.”

Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares Lord Yahweh, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’

¶How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? How can I give you over to be like Admah? How can I make you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned over within Me; All My compassions are stirred.

And tear your heart and not your garments.” Now return to Yahweh your God, For He is gracious and compassionate, Slow to anger, abounding in lovingkindness, And relenting concerning evil.

Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way, so God relented concerning the evil which He had spoken He would bring upon them. And He did not bring it upon them.

“For I, Yahweh, do not change; therefore you, O sons of Jacob, are not consumed.

“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not establish it?

for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

“Would that they were wise, that they had insight into this, That they would understand their future!

“For Yahweh will render justice to His people, And will have compassion on His slaves, When He sees that their strength is gone, And there is none remaining, bond or free.

Oh that they had such a heart in them, that they would fear Me and keep all My commandments all the days, that it may be well with them and with their sons forever!

“Therefore I was angry with this generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they did not know My ways’;

And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness?

Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

“I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following Me and has not established My words.” And Samuel became angry and cried out to Yahweh all night.

Also the Eternal One of Israel will not lie or have regret; for He is not a man that He should have regret.”

So Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel grieved over Saul. And Yahweh regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.
