Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In pain you will eat of it All the days of your life.

And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?”

“Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field;

Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, so she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate.

Now he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will give us rest from our work and from the pain of our hands arising from the ground which Yahweh has cursed.”

And Yahweh smelled the soothing aroma; and Yahweh said to Himself, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again strike down every living thing as I have done.

“Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil.

¶“How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, Or does their disaster fall on them? Does God apportion destruction in His anger?

It is in vain that you rise up early, That you sit out late, O you who eat the bread of painful labors; For in this manner, He gives sleep to His beloved.

Thus I turned to all my works which my hands had done and the labor which I had labored to do, and behold, all was vanity and striving after wind, and there was no advantage under the sun.

So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was grievous to me; because everything is vanity and striving after wind.

Also, all his days he eats in darkness with much vexation, and his sickness and anger.

and he *said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.

Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’

He *said to him, ‘From your own mouth I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am a strict man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?

These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are in the Law, so that every mouth may be shut and all the world may become accountable to God;

but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is unfit and close to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.
