“When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Work a miraculous wonder,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.’ ”

The Jews then said to Him, “What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things?”

“Ask a sign for yourself from Yahweh your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.”

And Yahweh said to him, “What is this in your hand?” And he said, “A staff.”

So they said to Him, “What then do You do for a sign so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?

And you shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall do the signs.”

So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh directed an east wind on the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and continue knowing that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.”

But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation eagerly seeks for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;

Speak and say, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh, “Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, The great monster that lies in the midst of his canals of the Nile, That has said, ‘My Nile is mine, and I myself have made it.’

So Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, and Yahweh gave forth thunder and hail, and fire went down to the earth. And Yahweh rained down hail on the land of Egypt.

So Moses took his wife and his sons and mounted them on a donkey and returned to the land of Egypt. Moses also took the staff of God in his hand.

And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

Then He said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.
