‘Its foliage was beautiful and its fruit abundant, And in it was food for all. The beasts of the field found shade under it, And the birds of the sky inhabited its branches, And all flesh fed itself from it.

“He removes the heart of wisdom from the heads of the earth’s people And makes them wander in a pathless waste.

¶“For there is hope for a tree, When it is cut down, that it will change back sprouting again, And its shoots will not cease.

At the scent of water it will flourish And put forth sprigs like a plant.

The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Yahweh, Was captured in their pits, Of whom we had said, “Under his shadow We shall live among the nations.”

On the high mountain of Israel I will plant it, that it may lift up boughs and yield fruit and become a majestic cedar. And birds of every kind will dwell under it; they will dwell in the shade of its branches.

They also went down with it to Sheol to those who were slain by the sword; and those who were its strength lived under its shade among the nations.

‘He called out loudly and said thus: “Chop down the tree and cut off its branches, Strip off its foliage and scatter its fruit; Let the beasts flee from under it And the birds from its branches.

and this is the smallest of all seeds, but when it is fully grown, it is the largest of the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”

But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.

yet when it is sown, it grows up and becomes largest of all the garden plants and forms large branches; so that the birds of the air can nest under its shade.”

It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and threw into his own garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”
