Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

And they *sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any.

But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death.

In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying,

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

And it happened that on one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and proclaiming the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders came up to Him,

And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them.

Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

Judas then, having received the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, *came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.

and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of high-priestly descent.

But the high priest rose up and those with him (that is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy.

Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this.

Then the captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).

And they stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and they came up to him, dragged him away, and brought him to the Sanhedrin.

And the word of God kept on spreading, and the number of the disciples continued to multiply greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.
