And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground.

“Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.

And David said to him, “Your blood is on your head, for your mouth has answered against you, saying, ‘I have put the anointed of Yahweh to death.’ ”

“He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.

So you shall not pollute the land in which you are; for blood pollutes the land, and no propitiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.

Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to that yourselves.”
