Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy; Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart, I will not endure.

Their judges are thrown down by the sides of the cliff, And they hear my words, for they are pleasant.

A perverse man spreads strife, And a whisperer separates close companions.

An evildoer gives heed to lips of wickedness; A liar gives ear to a destructive tongue.

The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts of the stomach.

The north wind brings forth rain, And a tongue of secrets, an indignant face.

A lying tongue hates those it crushes, And a flattering mouth works ruin.

If a ruler pays attention to a lying word, All his ministers become wicked.

Moreover, Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “In what way have I sinned against you or against your servants or against this people, that you have put me in prison?

You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not stand against the life of your neighbor; I am Yahweh.

And the tongue is a fire, the very world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our existence, and is set on fire by hell.

Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah and came and said before Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my iniquity? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?”

When the young man was gone, David rose from the south side and fell on his face to the ground and bowed three times. And they kissed each other and wept together, but David wept more.

Behold, this day your eyes have seen that Yahweh had given you today into my hand in the cave, and some said to kill you, but my eye had pity on you; and I said, ‘I will not send forth my hand against my lord, for he is the anointed of Yahweh.’

Now afterward David arose and went out of the cave and called after Saul, saying, “My lord the king!” And when Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the ground and prostrated himself.

He also said, “Why then is my lord pursuing his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand?

So now, please let my lord the king listen to the words of his servant. If Yahweh has incited you up against me, let Him accept an offering; but if it is men, cursed are they before Yahweh, for they have driven me out today so that I would have no attachment with the inheritance of Yahweh, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
