But David knew that Saul was plotting evil against him; so he said to Abiathar the priest, “Bring the ephod here.”

Then to Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to Anathoth to your own field, for you deserve to die; but I will not put you to death at this time, because you carried the ark of Lord Yahweh before my father David, and because you were afflicted in everything with which my father was afflicted.”

Then Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God here.” For the ark of God was at that time with the sons of Israel.

But one son of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.

Then David said, “O Yahweh, the God of Israel, Your slave has heard for certain that Saul is seeking to come to Keilah to make the city a ruin on my account.

Now it happened when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, that he came down with an ephod in his hand.

Then Saul summoned all the people for battle, to go down to Keilah to besiege David and his men.

Then David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod near to me.” So Abiathar brought the ephod near to David.
