Then David arose in the morning, and the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,

He also struck Moab, and measured them with the line, making them lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, bringing tribute.

And David was then in the fortress, while the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

Then some of the sons of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold to David.

And Yahweh spoke to Gad, David’s seer, saying,

Now the acts of King David, from first to last, behold, they are written in the chronicles of Samuel the seer, in the chronicles of Nathan the prophet and in the chronicles of Gad the seer,

He then caused the Levites to stand in the house of Yahweh with cymbals, with harps, and with lyres, according to the command of David and of Gad the king’s seer, and of Nathan the prophet; for the command was from Yahweh by the hand of His prophets.

But I said, “Should a man like me flee? And could one such as I go into the temple just to live? I will not go in.”

In Yahweh I take refuge; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain;

“But whenever they persecute you in this city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.

And David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother come and stay with you until I know what God will do for me.”

And the prophet Gad said to David, “Do not stay in the fortress; go, and enter into the land of Judah.” So David went and entered into the forest of Hereth.
