For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, The poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: He gnasheth upon me with his teeth; Mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: Hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; And he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, When thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them.

For thine arrows stick fast in me, And thy hand presseth me sore.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; Neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; Whereby the people fall under thee.

He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; He ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

The heart knoweth his own bitterness; And a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.

The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a wounded spirit who can bear?

From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

He hath bent his bow like an enemy: He stood with his right hand as an adversary, And slew all that were pleasant to the eye In the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion: He poured out his fury like fire.

Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand Against me all the day.

And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, And my sword shall devour flesh; And that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, From the beginning of revenges upon the enemy.

And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.
