Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.

Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, And stripped the naked of their clothing.

They cause him to go naked without clothing, And they take away the sheaf from the hungry;

They are wet with the showers of the mountains, And embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

Because I delivered the poor that cried, And the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, And ye dig a pit for your friend.

The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.
