They spend their days in wealth, And in a moment go down to the grave.

One dieth in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and quiet.

Which were cut down out of time, Whose foundation was overflown with a flood:

Drought and heat consume the snow waters: So doth the grave those which have sinned.

They are exalted for a little while, but are gone And brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, And cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.

For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: then had I been at rest,

If they obey and serve him, They shall spend their days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures.

For there are no bands in their death: But their strength is firm.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

And there came against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was near them.
