So Jo´ash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amazi´ah king of Judah, at Beth–she´mesh, which belongeth to Judah.
And see, if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth–she´mesh, then he hath done us this great evil: but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us; it was a chance that happened to us.
and the border compassed from Ba´alah westward unto mount Se´ir, and passed along unto the side of mount Je´arim, which is Ches´alon, on the north side, and went down to Beth–she´mesh, and passed on to Timnah:
But Amazi´ah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.
And the rest of the acts of Jo´ash, and all that he did, and his might wherewith he fought against Amazi´ah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
