And Men´ahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.
His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.
And the name of the man was Elim´elech, and the name of his wife Na-o´mi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chil´i-on, Eph´rathites of Beth–lehem–judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Na-o´mi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.
