Now it came to pass, when Sanbal´lat, and Tobi´ah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)

And before this, Eli´ashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobi´ah:

When Sanbal´lat the Hor´onite, and Tobi´ah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

But when Sanbal´lat the Hor´onite, and Tobi´ah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?

Then Eli´ashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Me´ah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Han´aneel.

But the fish gate did the sons of Hassena´ah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoi´ada the son of Pase´ah, and Meshul´lam the son of Besodei´ah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.

But it came to pass, that when Sanbal´lat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.

Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
