And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some, Eli´jah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilki´ah, of the priests that were in An´athoth in the land of Benjamin:
Behold, I will send you Eli´jah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
and said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him.
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Eli´jah must first come?
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
Others said, That it is Eli´jah. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Eli´jah; and others, One of the prophets.
and of some, that Eli´jah had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.
And they asked him, What then? Art thou Eli´jah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that Prophet? And he answered, No.
And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people.
They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
