and of some, that Eli´jah had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.

And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist; some, Eli´jah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Eli´jah must first come?

Others said, That it is Eli´jah. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.

And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Eli´jah; and others, One of the prophets.

They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Eli´jah; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again.

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Eli´jah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that Prophet? And he answered, No.
