And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.
And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kir´jath–ar´ba, and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekab´zeel, and in the villages thereof,
So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the Lord said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephun´neh the Ken´ezite unto this day; because that he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel.
And unto Caleb the son of Jephun´neh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.
Thus was Mid´i-an subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.
