Jeremiah 40:15

King James Version - American Edition

Then Jo´hanan the son of Kare´ah spake to Gedali´ah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the Lord said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

Then said Ab´ishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.
