Thus saith the Lord God of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,

and Ahi´shar was over the household: and Adoni´ram the son of Abda was over the tribute.

And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.

And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eli´akim the son of Hilki´ah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Jo´ah the son of Asaph the recorder.

Then said Eli´akim the son of Hilki´ah, and Shebna, and Jo´ah, unto Rab–sha´keh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and talk not with us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

Then came Eli´akim the son of Hilki´ah, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Jo´ah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezeki´ah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab–sha´keh.

And he sent Eli´akim, which was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

And over the king's treasures was Azma´veth the son of Ad´i-el: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehon´athan the son of Uzzi´ah:

Then said Eli´akim and Shebna and Jo´ah unto Rab–sha´keh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

Then came Eli´akim, the son of Hilki´ah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Jo´ah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezeki´ah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab–sha´keh.

Then came forth unto him Eli´akim, Hilki´ah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Jo´ah, Asaph's son, the recorder.

And he sent Eli´akim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,
