All the Neth´inim, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

And all the people that were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Per´izzites, Hivites, and Jeb´usites, which were not of the children of Israel,

their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of bondservice unto this day.

Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Neth´inim.

the children of Shephati´ah, the children of Hattil, the children of Poch´ereth of Zeba´im, the children of Ami.

And these were they which went up from Tel–me´lah, Tel–har´sa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer: but they could not show their father's house, and their seed, whether they were of Israel:

And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Neth´inim, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerx´es the king.

Moreover the Neth´inim dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lieth out.

All the Neth´inim, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me:

And the princes said unto them, Let them live; but let them be hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation; as the princes had promised them.

Now therefore ye are cursed, and there shall none of you be freed from being bondmen, and hewers of wood and drawers of water for the house of my God.

And Joshua made them that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of the Lord, even unto this day, in the place which he should choose.
