The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art not thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahim´a-az thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abi´athar.
but if thou return to the city, and say unto Ab´salom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father's servant hitherto, so will I now also be thy servant: then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahith´ophel.
Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahim´a-az Zadok's son, and Jonathan Abi´athar's son; and by them ye shall send unto me every thing that ye can hear.
Now Jonathan and Ahim´a-az stayed by En–ro´gel; for they might not be seen to come into the city: and a wench went and told them; and they went and told king David.
And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abi´athar the priest came: and Adoni´jah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.
And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can show us our way that we should go.
(Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to inquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.)
