But Ab´ishai the son of Zeru-i´ah succored him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.
Howbeit I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to thy son for David my servant's sake, and for Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen.
And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.
But Jehosh´eba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahazi´ah, took Jo´ash the son of Ahazi´ah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athali´ah, so that he was not slain.
Howbeit the Lord would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.
I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy E´phra-im: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
