The king said moreover to Shim´e-i, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thine heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father; therefore the Lord shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head:

But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah, the son of Elish´ama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedali´ah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.
Two and twenty years old was Ahazi´ah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athali´ah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
But when Ahazi´ah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ib´le-am. And he fled to Megid´do, and died there.
For the sons of Athali´ah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the Lord did they bestow upon Ba´alim.
Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah the son of Elish´ama, of the seed royal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, came unto Gedali´ah the son of Ahi´kam to Mizpah; and there they did eat bread together in Mizpah.
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubba´al, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding, yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubba´al was left; for he hid himself.
