from Jordan eastward, all the land of Gil´e-ad, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manas´sites, from Aro´er, which is by the river Arnon, even Gil´e-ad and Bashan.
And Jeho´ash the son of Jeho´ahaz took again out of the hand of Ben–ha´dad the son of Haz´a-el the cities, which he had taken out of the hand of Jeho´ahaz his father by war. Three times did Jo´ash beat him, and recovered the cities of Israel.
And Haz´a-el said, Why weepeth my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that thou wilt do unto the children of Israel: their strongholds wilt thou set on fire, and their young men wilt thou slay with the sword, and wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
