And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kir´jath–je´arim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.
And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the Lord, Uri´jah the son of Shemai´ah of Kir´jath–je´arim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:
Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the Lord thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the Lord.
They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and E´phra-im is my firstborn.
And the children of Israel journeyed, and came unto their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, and Chephi´rah, and Beer´oth, and Kir´jath–je´arim.
And the men of Kir´jath–je´arim came, and fetched up the ark of the Lord, and brought it into the house of Abin´adab in the hill, and sanctified Ele-a´zar his son to keep the ark of the Lord.
And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ash´toreth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.
