And he conferred with Jo´ab the son of Zeru-i´ah, and with Abi´athar the priest: and they following Adoni´jah helped him.

And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jeb´usites first shall be chief and captain. So Jo´ab the son of Zeru-i´ah went first up, and was chief.

and after Ahith´ophel was Jehoi´ada the son of Benai´ah, and Abi´athar: and the general of the king's army was Jo´ab.

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his Anointed, saying,
