(It is right for the overseer to be blameless as a steward of God) not self-pleasing, not prone to anger, not given to wine, not a quarreler, not greedy of ill gain;

Let not my soul come into their counsel; let not my honor be joined to their company. For in their anger they killed a man; and in self-will they hamstrung a bull.

He who is short of temper acts foolishly; and a man of evil plots is hated.

A man of fury stirs up strife, but one long to anger calms fighting.

One long to anger is better than the mighty one, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.

Do not hasten to be angry in your spirit; for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

But also these also have erred by wine, and have strayed through fermented liquor; priest and prophet have erred through fermented liquor; they are swallowed from wine; they stagger from fermented liquor; they err in vision; they stumble in judgment;

And “do not be drunk with wine,” in which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit, Prov. 23:31

Paul and Timothy, slaves of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:

For this cause I left you in Crete, that you might set in order the things lacking and appoint elders in every city, as I prescribed to you:

aged women likewise in reverent behavior, not slanderers, not having been enslaved by much wine, teachers of good,

each one as he received a gift, ministering it to yourselves as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Shepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight, not by compulsion, but willingly, nor eagerly for base gain, but readily;

and most of all the ones going after flesh in the lust of defilement, and despising rulership, darers, self-pleasing; they do not tremble at glories, blaspheming;
