To the Chief musician on Mahalath. A Contemplation; A Psalm of David. The foolish one has said in his heart, No God! They have done corruptly; they have acted abominably, doing iniquity; not one is doing good!
they have quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they made for themselves a molten calf and have bowed to it, and have sacrificed to it. And they have said, These are your gods, O Israel, who made you go up from the land of Egypt.
They do not know the way of peace; and no judgment is in their tracks. They have made crooked paths for themselves; everyone going in them does not know peace.
But we are all as the unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as a menstruation cloth. And we all fade as a leaf, and like the wind our iniquities lift us up.
For My people have done two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, to hew out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
among whom we also all conducted ourselves in times past in the lusts of our flesh, acting out the wills of the flesh and of the understandings, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as the rest.
