A Song of Ascents. Of David. O Jehovah, my heart is not proud, nor have my eyes been lofty; nor have I walked in great things, and not in things too wonderful for me.
And I have not hurried away from being a shepherd after You;I have not desired the woeful day. You know that the going forth of my lips was before Your face.
And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For, behold, I will bring an evil thing on all flesh, a statement of Jehovah. But I will give your soul to you for a prize, there on all the places where you go.
be mindful of the same thing toward one another, not being mindful of high things, but be accommodating to the lowly. Do not become wise among yourselves;
so that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left; so that he may prolong his days over his kingdom, he and his sons in the midst of Israel.
And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon David from that day and onward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
One of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows to play, and a mighty man of strength, and a man of battle, and skillful in speech, and a man of form; and Jehovah is with him.
And Saul’s servants spoke these words in David’s ears. And David said, Is it a light thing in your eyes to be son-in-law to the king? And I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed.
