and provoked Him with their deeds; and a plague broke out among them.
And they were unclean with their works, and went fornicating in their doings.
You answered them, O Jehovah our God; to them You were a God who forgives them, but One taking vengeance on their doings.
See, this only I have found, that God has made man upright, but they have sought out many inventions.
And Israel was joined to Baal-peor, and the anger of Jehovah burned against Israel,
and went in after the man of Israel, into the tent room. And he pierced both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman, through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the sons of Israel.
And those that died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.
Nor should we commit fornication, as some of them fornicated, and twentythree thousand fell in one day.
