Why do You stand far away, O Jehovah? Will You hide in times of distress?

To the Chief Musician, on the deer of the dawn. A Psalm of David. My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me, and are far from My deliverance, from the words of My groaning?

Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn away Your servant in anger; You have been my help, do not leave me and do not forsake me, O God of my salvation.

O Hope of Israel, its Savior in time of trouble, why should You be as an alien in the land, and as a traveler who turns aside to lodge?

O Jehovah, why do You cast off my soul; why do You hide Your face from me?

To the chief musician. For the sons of Korah; A song. For the Virgins. God is our refuge and strength, very much found to be a help in distresses.

Why do You hide Your face and forget our affliction and distress?

O Jehovah, in Your favor You have made my strong mountain to stand; You hid Your face; I was troubled;

Why do You hide Your face and count me for Your enemy?

And He gives rest, and who can condemn? And when He hides His face, who then can see Him? Even it may be against a nation and a man together,

to the left where He works, but I cannot see; He turns to the right, but I do not see Him.

For our soul bows down to the dust; our belly holds fast to the earth.

Why should You be as a man who is stunned, as a mighty one who cannot save? Yet You, O Jehovah, are in our midst, and Your name is called on us. Do not leave us.
