A rich man is wise in his own eyes, but the discerning poor one examines him.

It is not the great ones that are being wise, and not the aged ones who understand judgment;

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his imagination.

The first in his cause seems to be a just one, but his neighbor comes and examines him.

One being poor who walks in his integrity is better than a perverted one in his lips, and is a fool.

Do not labor to become rich; cease from your own understanding.

Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

The lazy one is wiser in his own eyes than seven that return a wise judgment.

Answer a fool according to his foolishness, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear Jehovah and turn from evil.

Woe to the wise ones in their own eyes, and discerning in their own faces!

For I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be wise among yourselves, that hardness in part has happened to Israel until the fulfilling of the nations comes in;

be mindful of the same thing toward one another, not being mindful of high things, but be accommodating to the lowly. Do not become wise among yourselves;

Charge the rich in the age now, not to be high-minded, nor to set hope on the uncertainty of riches, but in the living God, the One offering to us richly all things for enjoyment;
